Plan Lapland with facts you can check
When to go, how to get there, where to stay and what it costs, written by people who have lived through Lapland winters. Every fact links to its source and says when we checked it.

What are you planning?
A first winter trip
Dates, trip length, getting there and budget, in the order you need to decide them.
Christmas and Santa
December is the busiest and darkest month. Here is how to plan around both.
Northern Lights
No one can promise an aurora. You can still stack the odds with the right base, month and night.
How we work
Sources on the page
Opening hours, timetables, temperatures and prices link to the operator or authority that publishes them, with the date we checked. If we can't confirm a price, we don't print one.
No paid placements
Our guides carry no affiliate links and no paid rankings. When we name a hotel or a tour company, it's as an example, not a recommendation someone paid for.
Winters lived, not visited
The people behind this site have spent winters in Levi and Ruka and a summer in Rovaniemi. Where a guide relies on research rather than experience, it says so.
